The railway photographs of Carlisle-based Bob Leslie, kindly made available to the CRA by Peter J Robinson, are among the highest quality images of their time (mainly 1952-68) and many have been published over the years. They are also among the most important historically because of Bob’s painstaking recording, not just of the exact dates of each photograph but often details of the trains portrayed too. Because of his many contacts within the railway fraternity Bob was also able to be in the right place at the right time to record the more significant and unusual events for posterity. While most of Bob’s photos are taken on the lines radiating from Carlisle, around one third are taken on expeditions in the early-mid 60s on Eastern, Western and Southern Region lines.
