London & North Western Rly 0-6-0 No 3331. Unpainted but would have carried LNWR lined black. Ramsbottom DX design, rebuilt as a Special DX by Webb. No fewer than 943 DXs were built at Crewe 1858 - 1872. Many were rebuilt as 'SDXs' in the 1880s. No 3331 was the third DX to be built, as No 358 Falstaff, in October 1958. The date of its rebuilding as an SDX is not known, but it was probably renumbered to 3331 about 1899. It had a very long life: there is a photo of it clean and apparently working at Carnforth in about 1915.
